Frequently asked questions about weight loss

  • What’s changing with the price of Mounjaro?

From 1st September 2025, the manufacturer, Eli Lilly, will introduce a significant increase to the list price of Mounjaro (tirzepatide). This adjustment is linked to new US tariffs and the decision to bring UK pricing closer to the cost of the medication in the United States.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • No immediate change to your current cost – Your prescription price will stay the same until the new rates come into effect in September.
    • Looking into other treatment routes – We’re actively speaking with providers to find more cost-effective options and will share updates as soon as they’re available.
    • Order early to save – Placing your order before the end of August will secure the current price. If you’re already receiving treatment, we can arrange multiple orders in advance to help you stock up.

While Mounjaro remains a highly effective and sought-after weight loss treatment, alternatives such as Wegovy may be appropriate for some patients and can be obtained at lower prices. Our team will work with you to explore the most suitable and affordable choices.

If you’d like to review your treatment plan or discuss your options, please contact us directly – we’re here to help

  • Can I switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy?

Yes, switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy may be possible, but this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by your prescribing clinician. Before making the decision to switch, it’s important to consider the following:

    • Washout period required – You’ll need to wait at least 7 days after your last Mounjaro dose.
    • Starting dose – If you’ve had no side effects and your gap between doses is less than 3 weeks, you may be eligible to start:
    • Your weight loss goals – Depending on how much weight you are aiming to lose; it may be more beneficial to continue with Mounjaro rather than switch.

If you’ve experienced side effects, a longer washout period or lower starting dose may be required.

Please note: The final decision will always be made by our clinical team based on your consultation responses. Requesting a specific dose does not guarantee it will be prescribed

    Benefits of Wegovy

    • Works by targeting GLP-1 receptors, similar to Mounjaro.
    • Clinical trials have shown an average weight loss of 16%, with many patients achieving more.
    • Licensed for weight maintenance, meaning it is safe to continue even after you reach your goal weight.
    • Long-term studies show patients can maintain their weight loss when staying on treatment.
    • Proven cardiovascular benefits, including a significant reduction in the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Switching to Wegovy will the right option for some patients and not the correct course for other. It is important that you speak to your prescribing clinician if you are thinking about switching so they can help you make the decision which is in your best interest.

  • What is BMI?

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a calculation based on your height (m) and weight (kg) that is used to determine if your weight is healthy. Your BMI will be calculated as a number which represents your height to weight ratio i.e. 32kg/m2.

    BMI chart

BMIs are shown in ranges as follows:

    • An ideal BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9kg/m2
    • Between 25 and 29.9kg/m2 – you're considered overweight
    • Between 30 and 39.9kg/m2 – you're considered to be in the obese range

As well as measuring your BMI, healthcare professionals may take other factors into account to assess if you're a healthy weight.

  • Which treatment is best for me?

A healthy diet and exercise are the best way to lose weight. However, you may benefit from also taking weight loss medication. A consultation with one of our UK registered doctors will identify if medication is right for you and, if so, what the right treatment plan is.

  • Why haven't I been able to lose weight on my own?

Losing weight is hard and takes time, so don't give up. It is important to get the right approach for you, and that you are happy with the progress you are making. As you lose weight, we will review your treatment plan and medication to help you achieve your weight loss goals.

  • Can I exercise when taking weight loss medication?

Of course. Exercise and healthy eating should be part of a weight loss programme alongside any prescribed medication. As well as helping you to burn extra calories, it will also improve your general health and wellbeing, helping you maintain your weight once you have reached your goal and stopped treatment. Don't do too much too soon, ease into it depending on your current level of activity.

  • Should I adjust my diet whilst taking my weight loss medication?

You will need to review your diet while taking your weight loss medication. Some medications require a reduced-fat or calorie-controlled diet to minimise side effects or meet your weight loss goals. It is important to ensure the food you eat is balanced so that you are not missing out on any essential nutrients. Eating a balanced diet is a lifestyle change that you should continue even after achieving your weight loss goal.

  • Will my treatment go on my medical record?

We ask you to provide us with your GP's details and we encourage you to speak to them about your weight loss goals, however we do not share your treatment plan with them unless you agree for us to do so.

  • How long should it take to lose weight?

This very much depends on how much weight you need to lose to reach your goal, and other measures you take towards a healthier lifestyle such as diet and exercise. In general, slow and steady weight loss is preferable to trying to lose a large amount of weight quickly. It is recommended to aim to lose 1-2lb per week.

  • Will the weight come back after the treatment is stopped?

Your treatment plan will help you to achieve your weight loss goal, but you should adopt a healthier lifestyle, which includes a balanced diet and exercise, to help you maintain a healthy weight even after the medication has stopped.

Weight Verification FAQs

You and your safety come first. It's that simple. And safety means checking your weight from time to time.

  • Why do I need to verify my weight?

Your safety is our top priority. Verifying your weight helps us make sure any treatment we prescribe is safe and appropriate for you.

As an online provider, we don't have access to your NHS records or the ability to carry out in-person checks. With more people seeking weight loss support, we have a responsibility to ensure medication is prescribed safely.

  • How do I verify my weight?

    You'll need to provide:

    Three photos:

    • A photo of yourself standing on scales, showing the weight reading clearly.
    • A front-facing full-body photo (wearing fitted clothing) in front of a door.
    • A side-profile full-body photo to help assess weight distribution.

    A short video consultation:

A quick chat with one of our clinicians helps us ensure you get the right treatment and support.

If you have any difficulties with this process, let us know. We are always here to help.

  • What happens if I don't verify my weight?

We won't be able to process your order. Weight verification is essential for safe prescribing, making sure your treatment and dosage are right for you.

  • How often do I need to verify my weight?

Before starting a new weight loss treatment and at key points throughout your journey, or whenever clinically necessary.

  • What type of scales should I use?

Any standard or smart scale that provides an accurate reading is fine. If you're using traditional scales, just make sure the weight display is clearly visible in your photo.

  • Can I submit a weight verification from my GP?

Yes, you can upload a recent GP letter or equivalent. Just be aware that your GP may charge a fee for this.

  • How do I upload my weight verification?

Simply log into your PrivateDoc account and upload your photos under the Weight Verification section.

  • What if my weight changes significantly?

Let us know as soon as possible. A significant change in weight may affect your treatment plan, and we may need to adjust your medication accordingly.

  • How will I know if my verification has been accepted?

You'll receive a confirmation email once we've reviewed and approved your submission. If there's an issue, we'll reach out to help resolve it.

  • Is my weight data secure?

Absolutely. Your data is stored securely and used only for medical assessment, in full compliance with GDPR regulations.

  • What if my verification is declined?

We understand that everyone's situation is different. If your verification is declined, we're happy to review the decision and consider any new information.
